Players of Union Bank Basketball Club are set for the African Basketball Club Championship which dunks off in Monrovia, the Liberian capital from October 9 to 15.
The team, which were runners-up at the just-concluded DStv Final Four championships behind Kano Pillars Basketball team to book the continental ticket, will depart the country today with 12 players and three officials.
They include Dauda Moses, Onyia Darlington, Quenum Romaric, Koko Victor, Adeniyi Adebayo, Aigbokhaode Hilary and Balogun Kayode. Other players are, Alabson Timion, Udo Michael, Ohiero Michael, Ndoumbe Williams and Nkem Ojougboh.
The three officials are Ayinla Johnson (Head Coach), Savage Rotimi (Assistant Coach) and Hon Tunde Popoola, the Secretary General of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) who is the leader of delegation.
Popoola said he is optimistic that the team will do Nigeria proud at the continental basketball fiesta.
The team is expected back in the country on October 16.
Meanwhile, three other Nigerian teams, Kano Pillars, which won the league, First Deepwater that won the Zenith Bank sponsored Women Basketball League and runners-up, Dolphins Basketball Club, are already in Monrovia for the tournament.
